How to's & guides

How do the tinctures work?

Your pet, like any living being, has specific cannabinoid receptors in their brain and central nervous systems that make up what we call the “endocannabinoid system” where the compounds(hemp products) latch on and support your pets endocannabinoid system by supplying the essential phyto-nutrients they need. The ways of usage is either orally or topically.

Where do I apply these products?

You can apply our products topically or orally depending on what products you and your dog prefer. Our packaging will also include instructions for application.

How often should I reward my pet with a Honest Paws product?

You can treat your pet with these products as often as you’d like! We do suggest following our guideline with the recommended dosage by weight. Occasionally, improvements will take more than one treatment. To control pain, give approximately every 8 hours. For other uses, or to break unwanted behavior patterns, give once or twice a day. Our products are safe to use, all natural, pesticide free, and organic!

What is the proper dosage for my pet?

The proper amount of hemp is an art - not a science. Meaning most pet parents will need to play around with the amount of hemp they give your pet until they see the desired effects. With that said, here are some tips and tricks to get you started:

For pets under 25 lbs, we recommend 5mg of hemp per day.

For pets between 25 and 50 lbs, we recommend 10mg of hemp per day.

For pets over 50 lbs, we recommend 15mg of hemp per day.

With that said, every pet is unique and may require less OR more hemp to get the desired effect. If your pet is new to hemp, we recommend starting with half the recommended amount and then increase from there. Your pet may respond well to 50% of the recommended amount. However, if you do not notice a change, you can increase the dose to the full, recommended amount.

As mentioned before, some pets may require more hemp. In that case, it is perfectly acceptable to increase the amount of hemp given. However, you will want to do so slowly over time. For instance, if our 5lb pet is not responding to 5mg of hemp, then we would recommend increasing the amount by 50% the following day. Meaning, the 5lb pet would receive 7.5mg of hemp. You can continue to increase the amount until you see the desired effects.

If my pet has multiple conditions that can be supported by CBD, which type of product do I buy?

Honest Paws condition-specific lines are unique in that the hemp oil used in each line is specific to that use case. For instance, the hemp oil in our Calm line contains terpenes that are known for promoting relaxation. Whereas, the hemp oil used in our Relief line contains terpenes that are known for relieving discomfort. If your pet is dealing with two different conditions, you have a couple of options.

For best results, we recommend purchasing one product for each condition. For instance, if your dog experiences nervousness and has limited mobility, we recommend that you purchase something from our Calm line and something from our Mobility line. For dosing, you would have half of your dog’s daily dose come from the Calm product and the other half come from the Mobility product.

Another option is the Honest Paws Wellness line. This line is not targeted toward a specific use case but rather promotes overall wellbeing. The Wellness line has been known to support relaxation and mobility, relieve discomfort, combat seasonal allergies and skin irritation, as well as boost the immune system.

What is the difference between Mobility & Relief lines?

There is definite overlap between Honest Paws Mobility and Relief lines. However, they were developed for two very different reasons.

Honest Paws Mobility line supports your pet’s mobility. More specifically, it enhances your pet’s joint health so that they can move about more freely. This line is great for aging pets that are having a harder time getting around.

Honest Paws Relief line is more focused on relieving discomfort. For instance, if your pet recently had surgery or is perhaps recovering from an injury and cannot seem to get comfortable, this is a great option. The Relief line works by supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself so your pet can be healthy, happy, and comfortable!
